Theatre, dance, performance, circus, music, visual arts: this first edition of the festival features 38 shows from international artists from all over the globe as well as from the region Nouvelle Aquitaine, including 18 French or international premieres. Whether they are from here or afar, all of the artists remind us the necessity of creating artworks, helping us comprehend elements in their complexity, with courage, distance, humour, commitment. With these works, the programme seeks to unpick simplistic visions of the world and face up to prejudices and Manicheism. Sana Yazigi’s exhibition about Syrian art is the perfect example of this generous and humanistic vision, examining our relationship with hope as a common thread through all of the festival artworks, with a particular emphasis on the Middle East and Maghreb. I have imagined this festival as truly a moment of life – open, collaborative, festive – co-built with over thirty partners. Over three weeks, each day you will be able to see one or several shows, indoors or outdoors, going out with your family, or chatting and dancing at the FABzone! All of it with a playful and joyful spirit, and a focus on community and togetherness like this incredible opening event: Dominoes !
